Football's governing body, FIFA has this week fined each of the four home nations, for displaying the poppy symbol during the latest round of world cup qualifiers.

Despite repeated warnings, both the England and Scotland teams showed up to last month's fixture at Wembley wearing black armbands with the poppy symbol, while the Welsh and Northern Irish teams displayed poppy symbols around the stadium during their respective matches. FIFA rules state that no political or religious symbols should be worn or displayed. However the FA and SFA have already planned to dispute the fines, on the grounds that the poppy symbol is neither political or religious.
